Our speaker, Elizabeth Crawford, recently published a book about three ladies closely related to the famous doctor Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, who took a very different path in life and became a well-known firm of designers of furniture and textiles, succeeding (like the doctor) against the odds in a world dominated by men in the late 19th century. Their story is surprisingly fascinating.
The talk will be given in the house where the Garrett ladies lived, 2 Gower Street, which is now owned by Royal Holloway College. Accommodation is limited, and the building is secure, so that the doorkeeper will need to have a list of members attending.
